While the desktop version of Trending only shows a list of stories with a small description, the mobile version will have many more features.
Facebook has expanded the reach of its Trending feature, which made its debut on the desktop in January this year, to Android-powered devices in a bid to tap its fast-growing smartphone-bearing user base.
While the desktop version of Trending only shows a list of stories with a small description, the mobile version will have many more features. Namely, it will show more details about the trending topics through:
* Articles, which will show how news organizations are covering the story.
* In the Story, which will show posts from people who are part of the story.
* Friends and Groups, which will show what people in your network are saying.
* Near the Scene, which will show posts from people near where the story is unfolding.
* Live Feed, which will show a real-time stream of reactions from people around the world.
According to the Facebook blog post, this feature is currently available only in the US, but other markets will get it soon. This feature is limited to only Android smartphones and tablets at present, meaning that iPhone and iPad users will not be able to use it for some time.
Facebook also mentioned, that "the feed below the new sections will continue to display relevant posts ranked by engagement, timeliness and other factors."
This release comes just after Facebook rolled out upgraded search capabilities for its mobile and desktop users who want to find favourite posts from their friends on the huge social network.
