When someone tells you that convertibles are for the rich....Think again, 'cause Lenovo has just changed that! With the new Flex range, Lenovo has got Baytrail based convertibles at the hands of the middle-class.
Last week I came across on an Lenovo ad about these dual-mode laptops and realized that Lenovo has released these without any pomp and show.
The Lenovo Flex 10 is a smaller version of the popular Ideapad Flex line featuring a 10.1″ HD multitouch display, stereo speakers, and up to 500 GB of storage. The Flex 10 is unique in that the screen flips a full 300 degrees, facing the accutype keyboard down so it’s easier to use the touch aspects of Windows 8. The price is around Rs. 29,000 in Lenovo India website and Rs. 26,000 in e-retailer sites like Flipkart.
Processor options include an Intel quad-core Pentium N3510, or one of three Intel Celerons - a quad-core N2910, a dual-core N2810, or a dual-core N2805. The Celeron options come with 2 GB of RAM, while the Pentium has 4 GB.
This is the first netbook sized laptop to benefit from Lenovo's 300 degree hinge which allows the device to be folded back into presentation mode. It is certainly small enough to fit into a bag easily, though at 1.2 kilos (2.64 pounds) it isn't spectacularly light by today's standards. Battery life is also a rather disappointing 4 hours. All in all, the 10 just makes less expensive products like the Asus T100 look even better. But, Lenovo gives freebies like Veriface Pro face recognition software as well as McAfee Antivirus along with the Flex 10.
But, then a convertible plus a full featured laptop is sure to lure users in the Windows 8 platform. We recommend this laptop for all those people out there who want the convenience of a tablet combined with the power of a laptop and may not need that much of a battery backup.
