Microsoft's Xbox One all set to get Cortana, TV DVR with Windows 10

Microsoft has announced some major new projects and features that will be released on Xbox One in the upcoming months. According to the Verge, Microsoft revealed that they will be a releasing a redesigned dashboard on the Xbox One's in November which will bring Windows 10 to the console. The software update will focus on speed, performance and simplicity.

The Xbox One dashboard update will also bring Windows 10's Cortana feature. Cortana will require the Kinect sensor for audio controls. Also, a new feature called TV DVR is coming to the console in 2016. The Xbox One users will be able to record TV without requiring any subscription and stream games to any Windows 10 PC.

Microsoft is even allowing Windows 10 PCs to download shows. In addition, Microsoft has unveiled a limited edition Halo-themed Xbox One that comes with many games and a 1TB of storage. The new Xbox will feature metallic blue detailing on both the console and controller and will be available for $499. The new console launches on October 20th and is available for pre-order.

 Microsoft has also announced Xbox One chat pad. It is identical to its Xbox 360. Microsoft has not released any pricing or release date details, but pre-orders have started. The company also announced that the select Xbox 360 games will be compatible with Xbox One. All future Xbox 360 Games with Gold titles will be compatible with Xbox One.

PS4 Gets One of Vita's Best Games in September for $40

Tearaway Unfolded, the PlayStation 4 version of PlayStation Vita game Tearaway, will be out on September 8 in North America for $40.

Unfolded was announced last year, but today's announcement is the first we've heard of a release date, and it confirms that it won't be priced any higher than the original Vita version. This is an expanded and improved version of that game; it still features the novel construction-paper world of the game, and adds in new areas and some fairly extensive uses for the PS4's DualShock 4.

Those who preorder will be entitled to the Crafted Edition of the game, essentially a Day One version that includes a variety of bonus goodies. These include God of War and Journey costumes, custom decorations themed around various games (God of War, Infamous, The Last of Us, Killzone, The Order: 1886, No Man's Sky, Gravity Rush, and Lemmings), and a soundtrack.

Tearaway may not be the only acclaimed Vita game coming to PS4--Gravity Rush is also rumored to be on the way.

What you need to do first is select files in the Mac file system browser, known as Finder, and then combine a series of keyboard shortcuts. The keystrokes necessary for cutting and pasting files on the Mac are as so:

• Command+C copies the files or documents, note they won’t be ‘cut’ yet
• Command+Option+V pastes the documents into the new location, cutting it from the prior locating and moving it to the new location

Remember, you must have a file selected for the cut & paste to work.

If you just hit Command+V you will only move a copy of the files into the new location, as in a true copy and paste, rather than a cut and paste function. Notice holding down the Option key also changes the menu text to show “Move Items Here” to further signify the difference.

This is a feature many Windows converts have been wanting for a long time. Prior to this, users would drag and drop items into their new locations to move them, or use the command line mv tool. Those methods still work too though, obviously, but the cut and paste methodology is a very welcome addition.

It's been a little while since we checked in with Team Astrobotic. Earlier this year, we spent the better part of a week hanging around in the desert at the Mojave Air Space Port to watch the team test the landing system that will, hopefully, set its lander gently on the moon in the quest for the $30 million Google Lunar XPrize.

The competition awards a $20 million grand prize to the first team to touch down on the moon and cover a distance of 500 meters on or above the lunar surface, all while beaming high-definition video back to Earth. Teams are taking various approaches to meet those requirements. For Astrobotic, that means a four-wheeled rover deposited gently on the moon.

To catch a prototype of that rover in action (rolling on cake-tin wheels) we recently headed not to the desert but to a rock quarry, just outside the team's home base in Pittsburgh. There, the team demonstrated not only its ability to cover difficult terrain, but crucially to broadcast high-def video simultaneously.

This test was part of the 2014 Milestone Prize phase of the competition, an interim set of prizes for the teams best able to demonstrate their ability to win. These tests, mobility and imaging, were deemed successful. Astrobotic took home a check for $750,000 -- $500,000 for the mobility piece, $250,000 for imaging.

Next step? Why, the moon of course -- though there's plenty more testing between now and then. And more time, too. The XPrize Foundation has announced an extension of the ultimate deadline. Where the clock previously struck zero at the end of 2015, teams now have until the end of 2016 to actually make the voyage. However, at least one team must have its launch scheduled by the end of 2015 for the competition to continue.

So, it's fingers crossed that one of the remaining international Google Lunar XPrize teams can get their ticket reserved in time so they don't miss the train -- and the $30 million in prizes.
